Feature Requests

I was wondering if VST Live will ever adopt a more visual “wiring” view like some of the other VST hosting platforms do? Together with more flexible routing capabilities too? I think I’ve tried all the versions of VST Live, and each time the workflow seems slow to set up a configuration, e.g., an FX chain that contains FX in both series and parallel.

I have been using Cubase for 15 years now. Used the arranger track for live purposes, worked like i wanted but VST Live seems like a better fit for the job.

I play in 3 bands using backing tracks, tried ableton live (which didn’t work for us straight out of the box), tried several hardware pieces but the all lack the ability to change certain settings on the fly.

So I’m happy with VST Live 3! Only thing I really need is a seperate “Setlist Mode”. some kind of window in full scale where you can only start, stop or skip songs/parts.

Hi! Have you try iOS app? I mean @Spork temporary disabled the “PLAY” feature, but basically that might be what you’re looking for

Do you know, you can create an “All song” Playlist and navigate on the left-side, right?

I have now

I can see this could work in some cases. But we do a lot of festivals where changeover times are limited. For me personally I don’t want to rely on yet another device in the whole chain for our setup.

I always try to keep everything failsafe (which it isn’t, lol). Forgetting to bring a charger for your Iphone or Ipad is just an extra possible way to ruin your show.

A setting in preferences that deletes associated files when you delete a song.
And a setting that deletes files that are not associated with any song.

Like a Clean Up Project function? Great Idea!

And if you have more than one Project file how will it know ?

Are we keeping all project files under same folder? I always keep them separate, but I guess it is possible. Good point.

Yup save as exists for a reason…

Not sure where to ask for this feature request: Hoping there will be an update to the Yamaha Montage M ESP to enable more outputs from the VST itself. Currently ESP only does one stereo out unlike the actual Montage M which has a bevy of outs including a robust selection of USB outputs.
On ESP you can see and select which outputs a track is sent to. However that is only useful for setting track outputs on the Montage M itself once the data is dumped back into the physical synth. It would be nice if those output choices could be realized as multi-outs from the VST.

You know this button, do you (open Instrument Editor)?

Evaluating VST Live 3, it’s a great application for my band. One thing which I find annoying is the connection routing doesn’t recall the outputs and it’s only possible to select the output source at startup and not input. I usually edit the setlist and add songs at home with one an interface or the speakers and then start the session with a Digital Mixer with the band and then selects the Mixer but then have to go into the Audio settings and change the input and sometimes the connection/output is . So have to remember which output and input is correct which is not ideal for live use when everything has to work flawless. And sometimes when changing input and output the program has to be restarted otherwise no audio is sent. (Attaching image of it also be confused with connected to the digital mixer but the names says MacBook Speakers, which gets solved by restarting). Similar issue with midi device.

So my feature request is, would it be possible to store a configuration which can be recalled to fixed input, output and midi device to the setting which I setup for a specific setup, like home, rehearsal, live etc.

Again really like the application, but don’t want to be worried that the routing has been reset in some situation.

Normally VSTL do this by itself, after you had assigned inputs and outputs once for every audio setup. Same for MIDI

Do you use the Macbook speakers at home or a soundcard? What I can think of is, that when you use the internal sound device, this one is also available at rehearsal and VSTL remember this.

I use both speakers and a sound card at home, I understand that it tries to remember the last setting for the input and output but often the input is not assigned until I go to the menu and set the input and then I have to restart VST Live otherwise no sound is going through. So perhaps that’s a bug. just want to make it a bit smoother for quick setup. Perhaps have the input and output available in the Connection window and make sure it doesn’t have to be restarted.

I never got in this situation. I use it at home with a soundcard. At rehearsal with a different soundcard or with the Wing. In any case Inputs and outputs are assigned without any issue.

You can select the audio device in the hub before you open the project - have you tried that?

Yes, but that only sets the output and then the input is incorrect and input connections is until I go to the menu and set the input device as well (and restart VST Live since sometime no sound passes until a restart). So if it would be possible to set both input and output as well as midi device in the start page would also help.

That’s what it should do already afaik,

I thought so too. But it seems only affecting the output and then it uses the previous input if available which it is when using the speakers. Then it might be a bug in that case. Use case is, using speakers or sound card at home, then when connecting the mixer it keeps the input as previous even when changing it in the hub at startup and sometimes one input or output is reset to . To me it is just some inconsistency which bothers me and would like to set and forget. (I will stop commenting on this issue now, thanks for taking the time to look into it)

Yes, when you click the output section of the ESP it only has one stereo out unfortunately. It’s not a VST Live issue, it’s a Yamaha ESP issue. The ESP VST simply doesn’t do multiple outs like HALion etc. It’s something Yamaha would have to code on their end. Right now ESP is on version 3.0.1 so hopefully they’ll release an update with multiple outputs soon. Not sure if there’s a feature request e-mail that I could reach out to.
