Is there a setting where fermatas can still be centered over the bar even when bar rests are turned off? at the moment they are left.
If you only need them centered for the finished product (printout or exported pdf), set the layout option to show bar rests in empty bars while you’re working, wait until you’re in print mode, then set the layout option to hide bar rests in empty bars. The fermatas will stay centered as long as you stay in print mode to print or export PDFs.
Oh, interesting. You can get them to stick in place in other modes, too, as long as you don’t do anything to make Dorico recalculate the page (switch between Page and Galley view, for example, or switch between layouts).
I suspect this behavior is unintended and will some day be corrected.
