Fermata over a barline

I see a previous discussion on this topic, but it doesn’t address the solution I’m looking to address directly.

Does anyone know a way to make Dorico put a fermata (or other pause) over a barline? It doesn’t seem to want to let me do that. I’m looking for a method that doesn’t jerry-rig it by dragging something in Engrave Mode from where it doesn’t really belong to where I’d rather see it.

Gould says: “A pause must be positioned over a note, tremolo beam …, rest, barline, or sign indicating a break in sound such as a comma or caesura.”

So Ms. Gould (at least, if not the world in general) does recognize the propriety of a fermata over a barline. And there are two places where I very much want to put them that make complete sense to me. One of them is at the very end of the piece, which ends very quietly, and I want all players to freeze for an appropriate amount of time. In 99% of cases in such music this would be done naturally without any need for a special. I’d like to nail it down to make it 100%.

Attach the fermata to some note in the measure before the barline in question, then open the bottom Properties panel and tick “Attach to barline”.

That’s it. What I was looking for was a way to do it legitimately rather than faking it with some sort of kludge. Dorico allows for attaching it to a barline. That counts.

Thanks. Another problem resolved.
