Fermatas Not Showing Up

I have two uses of fermatas in adjoining measures and one creates fermatas for the instruments not playing over the whole rest and the other does not do that. I cannot figure out why.

It’s because of the caesura. Dorico only lets you have one hold or pause at a rhythmic position; the caesura is attached to the first beat of the second bar, and even though the fermata is on beat 4, in the empty bars it also is attached to the first beat (since there’s no other music there).

One way to get them both to appear is to move the caesura slightly earlier, maybe by a 16th. You might have to then adjust some spacing in Engrave mode.

Another possibility would be to create a playing technique containing a fermata glyph and apply it to the empty bars, or a line with a fermata as a center annotation and a blank line body. Both of these would probably require some adjusting in Engrave mode.

Curious! Scooching it back a 16th into the previous bar fixed it. Very fiddly!
