Sorry for all of the questions today, but I just ran into a few weird issues with my current project. I honestly don’t know what happened, or what I might have done to make these issues occur. The first issue I’m noticing is in bar 10, mainly for the flutes/picc. The mezzo piano is farther away from the staff than the forte in bar 14. Yes, I could move it in engrave mode. However, shouldn’t all of the dynamics be the same distance away from the staff? Especially when no notehead, stem or beam is below the staff? The next issue is Dorico decided to make the default tempo q = 40 BPM for whatever reason when the tempo is clicked in the play toolbar in the top right corner of Dorico in Write Mode. The third issue is that playback is ignoring dynamics and fermatas. Also, please ignore all of the engraving issues. I’ll get them fixed when I get my major issues fixed. Thanks for the help, again!
The mp looks correct in relation to the f. Possibly the reason it looks further away is that the mp is “lowercase” and the f is a taller glyph.
To prescribe a playback tempo, you need to add a tempo mark at the first bar. If you don’t want it to show, you can hide it in the properties panel.
I’m not sure why playback is ignoring the fermatas…
I think the reason that the fermatas are not holding (pausing) as intended is the settings in the Playback Options->Timing:
I would suggest, just as a start to make the Normal pause 200 and the Gap pause 200. This will demonstrate the length of the hold and the pause just before the music continues. If one doesn’t want a pause, the Properties panel can set the femata (aka hold) to hold only without a pause or the pause can be set to any number in Playback options.
I’ve tried that, but Dorico wants to still make the tempo 40BMP.
Tried that, and that also didn’t fix the issue.
The tempo is to do with the fermata on beat one. To test, I just created a tempo mark there but it have any effect until I deleted the fermata.
If you are happy to ignore any playback of the fermata, just Suppress Playback via the Properties panel and the project will playback at the default(?) of 120bpm.
I’m sorry, but I’m having trouble understanding you.
The problem is caused by the tied rolls in Snare and Toms. This is what is determining the fermata hold and gap durations.
Remove the ties and normal order is resumed.
