Figured bass copying

I have a score to which I want to add a figured bass part. I have already notated the figured bass in a separate file. Something like this:

However, when I copy the notes—including the figured bass—and paste them into my score, only the notes appear, not the figures.

What am I missing?

Check the Layout Options to see whether Figured Bass is shown for that staff, or not.

Under Players > Figured Bass.

Or if you add some figures somewhere on that staff, it should get automatically set.

Many thanks – that was the right tip. However, I’ve now run into a different problem with it: in my original figured bass file, I made extensive use of the “o-force” method. But it now appears that Dorico isn’t taking this into account at all in the copied part…

So you copy it, but the copied result no longer has Forced Duration on?

As far as I know, the Force Duration attribute should be copied.

Can you show us an example? (Also of why you need to use it extensively.)

Ah, sorry for being unclear. I do not know the correct expression, but one can force figured bass input to present exactly what you are typing in, e.g. “o53” will show 5/3 whereas “53” will not show any figures (due to the settings in engraving options). Instead of finding out all the appropriate settings I found it just easier (at least quicker) to use this method und I called it the “o-force-method”

Now the strange thing ist: I retried all that with new files and copying worked correctly. I’ll have to look at this in more detail, but this week I have a hard proof-reading work to accomplish…

Sorry, I thought you meant Notes, not figures.

The result may still depend on the Engraving Options of your project, though it should still be “o” forced.
