Hi!
I am happy with Dorico but the figured bass pop-over is really not good enough!
Here is what annoys me! See the figures in bars 15 and 17. I would be immenseley grateful if the Dorico developers could rethink their idea to always put the highest numbers on top. It’s against the very nature of counterpoint in figured bass. Lines need to be independent, folks. This is not chord playing, but rather making contrapuntal realizations on the keyboard, so this flexibility is absolutely essential.
Thanks!
I chose that in engraving options but the property panel doesn’t show this option anyway. So, I don’t see to be able to activate this. 10 8 I can write, but I don’t seem to be able to turn it into a simple interval.
And what about 4-9? Should that then be entered as 11-9? But would that not automatically be turned into 4-2? That would have an entirely different meaning - and it would not fit here
You have to click on the figures. Here’s what I’m able to enter (including the voice-leading lines):
P.S. — As you continue to work with Dorico and interact with the Dev Team members here on the forum, you’ll be delighted by how deeply musical both they and their software are. Enjoy!
Happy to hear that!
So far, I haven’t been very impressed by the figured bass features.
But I am very impressed by most of the rest of the program. I’d be happy to interact with the developers about the things that do not work for me. I am making partimento editions for a publisher, so I am very dependant that this will work out for me (previous Finale user - all previous editions were made in Finale).

I do click on the figures. But nothing happens.
Version 5.1.70.2200 (Nov 18 2024)
There are a number of users in the forum with lots of professional experience notating earlier music (I am definitely not among them, instead being a composer ). If you post questions I’m sure you’ll get lots of valuable feedback.
You might also want to look into fellow forum member @dan_kreider’s MusAnalysis font. A bit of syntax to learn but well worth it. (Firgures and other symbols are entered in Dorico as lyrics, not figures, though.)
Yes, Dan’s MusAnalysis is excellent! I’ve used it a lot in my teaching.
Make sure only the figures are selected, not the note also. (I’m still running Version 5.1.60.2187, in case that makes a difference.)
The picture above is in engrave mode.
But also in write mode I lack the option of choosing simple intervals.
Which version of Dorico are you using?
In Write Mode:
Version 5.1.70.2200 (Nov 18 2024)
The newest version…
Hmm… Pro or Elements?
Dorico Pro 5 (version 5.1)
Then I’m stumped.
