Hi
I realise I’m probably simply overlooking something obvious but…
I’ve typeset some classical guitar music as an accompaniment - something I have done a lot of - all labelled up with fingerings and barré markings…
Then, with the hindsight that I wish had come earlier, I realised I might be better in another key because of the other instrument. All done in seconds…
Then I need to refinger it, so I decided to delete all the fingering. So I selected everything and used the “Filter” menu. I didn’t see fingerings, but I did see performance techniques, so I picked that, and could now delete all the barré markings. But how do I select finger numbers en masse? I just can’t see how to do that…
Except… This opens a different box of frogs which I’ve encountered before… When one has grace notes in the music, and one selects all notes, the properties panel is rather empty, and in particular doesn’t contain the fingerings pane.
Thanks - it so nearly works for me - at least I can select the music in sections that avoid grace notes - so it does about 90% of the work for me, thank you!
In addition to what I described in my previous post, there is a Key Command called “Reset Fingering” (in Preferences > Key Commands > Edit) to which you can assign a key combination. To use it, select the notes from which you want to remove fingering (Select All if you want to do the whole piece) and then press the key combination you have assigned.
I don’t know if this method will take care of the grace notes problem you mentioned, but it is fewer keystrokes and/or mouse movements than the method I posted earlier.
You can also access it under Edit > Fingering > Reset Fingering, or right-click on the selection and choose Fingering > Reset Fingering.
The problem with any complex piece of software is that those features one needs but once a year can be devilishly hard to find sometimes - I appreciate your help!
Derek
You would need to take the additional steps of:
1 Filter: Deselect
2 Filter Grace Notes
3 Untick the Fingering property
4 Filter: Select
5 Filter Grace Notes
6 Untick the Fingering property
By then, obviously Reset Fingering is much faster. Still another way to access that is from the Jump Bar. (Jreset f)
But the fact that both grace notes and regular notes can have a Fingering property, but it does not show when both are selected feels a bit like a bug to me.
