Final Disposal of e-Licenser heading into 2025

While I only use Wavelab (and not Cubase) - and could not find a specific forum to post this question - I will start it here for the amount of traffic this forum gets.

With the impeding retirement of the e-Licenser service AND assuming one has moved my one and only WL license to the Steinberg License Manager long ago - can anyone comment on these two questions:

  1. When can I remove the e-Licenser and all of it’s associated software OFF my DAW.
  2. Even more critical - and the reason that I asked #1 first - when is the overall Steinberg Download Manager package going to be properly updated so this useless e-License payload no longer automatically installs to my DAW - every time I choose to launch SDM to check for updates or in the case of a new install.

While the retirement of the service is one thing - the fact that this component still exists on my DAW (and I have had WL on the Steinberg License Manager platform for over 2 years now) AND appears - even today - to be forced onto my DAW is a real PITA.

I feel like if I uninstalled it today and tidy things up nicely - as soon as I fire up SDM in a week or two when checking for updates - e-License will simply reappear again

Appreciate any info on this as we cross into 2025.

Open the eLicenser Control Center and check if all of your licenses have this “Upgraded to Steinberg Licensing” mark set on the product name. If there is one that does not have this text it will still require the eLicenser, if not you can take the dongle of.

Why is that critical? It is a tiny utility sitting on your disk and doing no harm at all, nothing dangerous or critical.

Of course the SDM will continue to install it until the eLicenser infrastructure is deactivated. After that the eLCC is no longer needed and will probably disappear.

So just have some patience and wait until the final shutdown.

Fair enough. I have nothing licensing wise that has anything to do with this application or service.

Will wait it out until the new year.

Alternativly - unplug your dongle, launch your various Steinberg products and see if any have license problems.
