Finale is damaged?

I’m coming from Finale and trying to get my files imported to Dorico. I have instructions for doing that. But …

I migrated to a newer MacMini and I get a message saying Finale is damaged and should be moved to the trash. I checked and it won’t open. I read this has to do with getting permission from Finale? But they are gone. Can I fix this? I still have my older MacMini with a working Finale and my Finale files.

If, by saying “migrated”, you did not actually use the Finale installer to install into your new MacMini, then perhaps this is the cause. It might need the installer to freshly install the program. The authentication servers should still be working for new installs, so return to your Finale account, it should still work and download the installer as normal etc.

Others here might have other suggestions

Thanks. The whole computer was migrated by the genius bar at an Apple store. I don’t know what they did.

Where would I look for the (missing) Finale installer on my new macmini?

Download it from your Finale account.

I couldn’t find the installer alone so I tried to download Finale 27 for Mac OS11 (that was the most recent choice given). I got the same msg - Finale is damaged etc. Maybe I did something wrong. Maybe OS 11 was the problem. Thanks, though.

You might need to make sure you have completely uninstalled every file Finale left behind, clean caches etc. If you search internet, you might find locations of what to trash, clean caches etc. Perhaps boot in Safe mode (etc.) Then reboot again, then try the installer again.

I see this page, clicked on Finale and it has information about the latest version and it says it installs into Mac OS11

Finale for Mac® (v27.4.1)

and this page has information about how to install

Thank you! I didn’t understand all of that message but I’ll read those links and try again. I’m barely computer literate.

This probably has no bearing on that message but my goal is to install Finale 27 into my newer macmini running OS 15 something. OS 11 was attempted because it was what was available (to me) for Finale 27 on the download page.

There are many Finale users here, perhaps one of them will give you more specific information about a clean uninstall.

It should be sufficient to delete the application, and then reinstall.

The damaged message is MacOS just saying that something about the app has been modified, so it considers it “untrustworthy”.

You can download Finale from your MM account here:

Thanks, that solved the problem. Do you work for Steinberg?

Users working for Steinberg have a little red circle on their avatar picture, so you an identify them easily
