Finale to Dorico PRO crossgrade problems

Hi there, Sorry if this has been asked/answered already but haven’t been able to find it yet: I have a problem crossgrading from Finale to Dorico PRO. I downloaded Dorico SE just to see how it performs and what the main differences are and then decided to purchase the crossgrade through Makemusic. Having now downloaded the PRO version it still only opens as SE. I have found some forum posts about how to get PRO to open as SE and also one about using an activation code using the activation manager but in the email that accompanies the purchase of the crossgrade it states that “The license will activate automatically on the first launch and can be found in the Steinberg Activation Manager, which is installed with the Steinberg Download Assistant.” Only Dorico SE appears in the download assistant and the activation manager. Please help!!! Thanks.

Hi and welcome to the forum!
The installation and activation process is indeed a bit cumbersome but you will manage to activate the license.

Have you already entered the Download Access Code – that’s the code you get after the purchase – in the Download Assistant? This should add the Pro license to your account so that it appears in the Activation Manager.

Since all Dorico editions use the same application, you don’t need to install it again. It should be sufficient to activate the Pro license in the License Manager. Afterwards, Dorico Pro should launch instead of SE.

Hi, I thought I did (was sure I did) but maybe I didn’t. I entered it now and it’s working now, although I rebooted it before then and I don’t know if that helped or not. Thanks Martin!

You’re welcome. Great to hear that it works now. Have fun with Dorico! I’m sure you’ll love it.

Is there a version of Dorico that will work with OS 10.13.6
5.1 does not. Thanks!

I’m afraid the latest Dorico version that will run on 10.13 seems to be 3.5.

Welcome to the forum, Darcy. Indeed, it’s pretty awkward to run Dorico 3.5 now because it uses the old eLicenser system, which is very shortly headed for retirement. But if you really have no way of moving up to a supported OS for Dorico 4 (10.14) or Dorico 5 (10.15), we can help. If you’re a Finale crossgrader, once you’ve purchased the crossgrade, if you contact our support team, we should be able to provide you with a Dorico 3.5 activation code.

I too am having a similar problem. I already owned a license for Dorico 5 Elements. I also bought and downloaded the crossgrade and activated the license through the Steinberg download manager and it shows as activated. However, whenever I launch the program it still opens as Elements. How do I access the Pro version.

You need to activate your Pro licence via the Activation Manager.

Thanks for your quick reply. I thought I had already done that, but I think I hadn’t selected Dorico Pro 5 in the My Product Download Tab before entering the access code from the MakeMusic website. That did the trick. Thanks so much for your help.
