I picked up Dorico Pro 5 a while back from the Finale crossgrade but haven’t touched it as I have an album project in Nuendo that’s taken all my time( to be honest I never used Finale
) but I’m closing in on the mix stage so I have free time to experiment! My only experience with notation is pencil and paper( and eraser
) so I did the easy thing…I opened the Getting Started.pdf and followed along and kept notes of all the shortcuts, especially the popovers!
I have to say I’m really enjoying the experience and can see myself using Dorico without the training wheels fairly soon, minus some trips to the manual and questions on here! Instead of dragging baggage I started fresh and it’s so much easier ![]()
Usually all my orchestral work is done by writing the parts as I go using the keyboard in Nuendo to record each part. I do use Fender Notion now on my tablet but I export into Dorico fairly easily. I’m torn right now on whether to compose the work in Dorico and then play and record each part in Nuendo as I’ve always done or to try to use the Dorico project as input for the instruments in Nuendo…EW, Spitfire, etc.
Here’s an example of something I played each part one at a time in Nuendo…listen to the first part, the second is more rock… I play Keyboards, Guitar, and Drums so ![]()
