Is there a way to enter instrument fingerings BELOW the note? (In addition to above). So that, for piano players, you can write a single line playable by both hands but not have to create a separate staff.

There are many, many possible options in Engraving options>Fingering.

Sorry - After inputting the above fingering, when you choose “Below” from the options it just places the existing fingerings below the staff. Oh, well …
Properties are always in the properties panel!
Often these conform to, or override, something set as a default elsewhere (Engrave or Notation options). I’ve not explored in detail the options for fingering.

I think in this case—after inputting fingerings above the note—it just moves the existing fingerings to below.

I could be wrong, but I think that what you’re trying to achieve needs a workaround (either two voices or a playing technique).

The short answer to your question is: no it is not possible to add two independently movable fingerings to a single note without a work-around as described above. The closest one can come without a work-around is to use alternate fingering with the vertical distance between them set to 7 spaces or so. But then one runs into another problem: one cannot use an alternate fingering that is the same as a primary finger for example 1(1) a situation that often arises with two sets of alternate fingerings. And one still cannot move the fingerings independently of each other.

Sounds like this is where I deploy external hardware (a pencil).
That shouldn’t be necessary. Create a Playing Technique for each finger number of the same font and size and put them in wherever you would like.
If it helps, I created this file a while ago with playing techniques for piano fingerings. You can import them using the Library Manager. The fingerings are duplicated so you can enter them directly above or below.
It uses the default the default Bravura glyphs, corresponding to “Bold Font” in Engraving Options>Fingerings, and to the default Font Style “Fingering Font”.
The popover syntax is f1 f2 […] f5 for fingerings above, and fd1 fd2 […] fd5 for fingerings below. (You can change that in the Playing Techniques editor).
I’d recommend to set this value to at least 1/2 in Engraving Options>Playing Techniques:
