Fingering rest collision problem and cross hand fingerings

Stuck on a a simple fingering entry. Editing some organ music. In 3 parts:

  1. Added rest in voice 1

  2. Changed the Y offset to -1, (couldn’t find an option change in notation or engraving options)

  3. Added a fingering to 3rd beat E and the rest moved and added the dash above (if I didn’t change the Y offset this is just added to the top of the rest)

Is there any way to add fingerings without the rest moving? Related: So many organ editions keep all the right hand fingerings above and left below even when hands cross staff. Finding this impossible in Dorico. Any suggestions?

Thanks! Dennis

It looks like Dorico doesn’t want to put the fingering above the rest, because it belongs with the note – so it moves the rest out of the way.

There are some other things you can adjust, but can you describe or show what you would like this to look like?

I’m trying to replicate a fingering style similar to most Dupré editions.

I’ve come across these limitations in Dorico:

  1. This rest issue, where it wants to force voice one rests above the voice 2 fingerings
  2. The inability to use dashes to indicate held fingers
  3. The inability to indicate fingerings in one hand that cross into a different clef, like beat 3 in the left hand in the following example.

Okay, but what do you want the screenshot from your first message to look like?

I want to keep the fingerings above the staff and the rest to stay on the staff.

Which I can move the rest, but that dash attached to the rest just hangs up there:

Instead of changing the Y offset of the rest, use the Rest Position property.
