First experience with DMX

Yesterday, I tried working with DMX for the first time, and there were some things that I didn’t have.

  • Multiple channels are usually used at the same time to control the lighting changes. When recording a track from a DMX mixer, only the fader changes are recorded, but not the starting positions. It is not possible to move multiple faders synchronously on the virtual mixer to set up this positions quickly, but if you set a pattern on the mixer using the sliders before recording, it will not be recorded. Maybe it makes sense to have a button on the DMX mixer to transfer the current position of the faders to the DMX track
  • In the DMX track editor, the dividing line between the channel list and the editor does not move with the mouse. It turns out that you have to edit in a narrow band.
  • It would be nice to have the ability to save fader combinations as presets on the mixer, so that when recording a track, you don’t have to adjust each fader’s position every time, but simply call up the desired preset, and record a combination of this fader settings to DMX tracks. This options always present in hardware consoles and programs.

VL records what received. We had such experience when recording DMX from GrandMA. The starting point CUE (say all zero) needs to be processed and recorded also. when recording, any recording device won’t have any idea what “last” values were broadcasted “in the past”. Do you get what I mean?

I suggest making a button that sends the current combination of all or selected DMX faders from mixer to the DMX track simultaneously, so that I don’t need to draw the desired combination on the track or adjust the values with pencil for each channel
