I finally made a step to implement VST Live 3 in my live shows. I love the idea of the app, the options it provides, and the workflows and scenarios that it can facilitate. Everything is intuitive, both for easy plug-and-play setups and in-depth advanced scenarios.
Unfortunately, these words are all based on a promise; my actual user experience was quite disappointing. I downloaded and used both the 3.0.40 version from Steinberg Download, and 3.0.47 from vstlive website, hoping the UX would be different/better. Bugs that I experience apply to both versions (more frequent on 3.0.47):
Biggest one: everything that I tried to add (tracks, draw events on track, new layers, stacks, or tracks in the mixer) disappears quite often. Immediately, or after a couple of seconds, or sometimes randomly while working.
Tracks that I cut reappear after a while.
Opening the app, the mixer has at least 2 tracks with wrong/lowered volume. Usually the fader drops around -20db
While working in the Mixer, “ghost hand” lowers the volumes of the track immediately after I attempt to set the fader to desire volume.
Preference changes sometimes apply, sometimes don’t.
I’m on Windows 10, ASUS ROG G752VY laptop, Intel(R) Core™ i7-6700HQ CPU @ 2.60GHz, 64.0 GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M (4 GB)
Any advice to better the experience?
Thanks, Balsa
Regarding older versions: this is my first time using the app, so I don’t have any prior experience or projects. Never installed VST Live on my laptop prior to this. So my first and only version is v3.
Im a long time Cubase user. The lap top is set and used only for audio/video production in Cubase and Davinci Resolve, and the experience is flawless.
As you say, you’re a Cubase user. A good workflow is, to prepare your songs in Cubase and export it than to VST Live. This has two advantages. First, you are used to work with Cubase, so this makes things easier and second, all editors within Cubase are more sophisticated than comparable editors in VST Live.
This is certainly unusual. You may have assigned MIDI controlleres to actions in “Devices/Actions and Shortcuts” which fire and cause spurious events? Try “Reset All” in said panel.
If that still doesn’t help, apply “Help/Clean all user Data”. If that doesn’t help, maybe your ascii keyboard or mouse are broken.
What exactly do you mean by that? Which Preference does not apply specifically, and how to test that?
YES! A Midi Input was assigned to Undo, which kept removing all my actions, making it look like they were disappearing for no reason.
Thanks @musicullum for the solution. And thanks @Kai_Schwirzke for the support in PM. This experience adds to my excitement about using this amazing app and becoming a part of this lovely community.
