Fix Lyric and barline collision

New Dorico user, coming over from Finale. I am having issues with lyrics crashing into barlines when written in a grand staff (see example) How can I fix this, I don’t see this addressed

online.

I have had this happen, too (former Finale user here). I have found a couple of things that help:

  • reducing the space size on Page section in Layout Options and/or
  • in Engrave mode, selecting the word and nudging it to the right with alt/opt (arrow key).

Another thing you could do if neither of those fit your fancy is to adjust the Lyrics font size in Paragraph Styles under the Library dropdown.

Try using the Choir (reduction) grand staff rather than a keyboard version.

In addition to the other suggestions here, you could also give that single lyric an explicit white background, which will erase the barline.

You can do this explicitly in Edit Single Lyric, or you can define a paragraph style which inherits from Lyrics and adds a white background, and then apply this paragraph style to that single lyric in the Properties panel.

Next addition: if you’ve already entered all music and lyrics, you can edit the instrument definition in Setup Mode, and tell it’s a vocal staff. Lines between top and bottom staff will disappear as in the example @Derrek gave
