I wonder if it is possible to place fixed value notes above a tune as an improvisation guide(See attached screenshot) for jazz students. I can add the square on a pdf editor.

Hi @Patrick22, is all obtainable inside Dorico, with a hidden quarter septuplet, and removed rests, hidden stems, and 2 custom lines attached to rhythmic position (one above, and one below, with extra long hooks* ) positioned in engrave mode:
