The flat symbols cause the line spacing to be wider than it should be above and below the lines with the symbol. How do I fix this?
Check that Library->Character Styles->Music Text uses Bravura Text and not Bravura.

Could you share the file, or just part of it, with the issue?

That’s strange — on my system Bravura Text often produces vertical spacing that’s too large for accidentals, especially for layout names with a border. So I ended up setting Sebastian Text as my default (just for Music Text Character Style). And on my end, it makes a difference in @Viola32’s file, as you can see in my screenshots.
But I’m not a font expert, so I might be missing something!

I know this has come up before, as it used to drive me crazy too, so here are a few things I remember about this …

I don’t know if it’s the font version or the OS rendering, but this issue seems to be much worse on Windows than Mac. When I was on Win it frustrated me enough that I just made my own font with metrics that matched my standard text font, which allowed me to avoid the issue. For whatever reason, the issue doesn’t seem as pronounced on Mac.

Dorico is really using the wrong glyph here. There is an entire SMuFL range “intended for mixing music symbols with text.” The upper extension on that flat doesn’t reach as far so blends better with text IMO. It seems like there should at least be an option to have Dorico use those glyphs.

Bravura Text is covered by the SIL Open Font License, so it’s legal to modify it and save it as a new font, as long as you abide by the conditions of that license. As mentioned above, I just created my own font that matches my text font metrics, and substituted the accidentals designed to go with text in the place of the accidentals designed to go with music. Example below:
