Flow Name under Title

Flow names/titles do not show up in Page, Galley, or Engraving view.

How do I make them appear?

By the way, I have no idea why there are separate flow names and flow titles. What do people use that for?

Hey Konrad,

Layout Options, under Page Setup:

I do not normally use it, but you could put different or additional info into the flow name, that you do not want to print?

Flow names also appear in the application window title, e.g., “Flow1 in My Awesome Project”. This helps let you know what you’re currently looking at. I might rename a flow “Sandbox” or “Ideas” just so I know what my intent is for that flow.

Thanks! Worked just fine.

Two comments:

  1. It was confusing at first because Flows seem to have both titles and names–I have no idea why.
  2. I really wanted the first flow to be called “Part I: Out to Sea;” but since Dorico insists on putting the Flow number in front of the title, I had to settle for this:

To achieve that I’d probably set the flow title back to Never and then modify the template by adding a text area with contents of: Part 1: {@flowtitle@}.
However, I’m not an Engrave mode expert and there might be better ways of doing this.

Edit the flow heading template (it sounds scarier than it is… :wink: ):

In Engrave mode, if you pop open the Flow Headings template, you’ll see that it consists of the tokens {@flowNumber@}. {@flowTitle@}. You can remove the first part, and then it will only show the title.

You could use:

Part {@flowNumberRomanUpper@}: {@flowTitle@}

Very kind of you to make this video! Thank you!

This proves that Dorico always has a solution. :slight_smile:
