Flow Titles Do Not Appear

I have not used flows before, but my latest piece is a suite of four short pieces, so I broke it into flows. I used Project Info to name each flow.

Two things surprised, and made me wonder if I missed a step:

  1. The flow titles don’t show up in Page view or Engrave view. I thought that would be automatic; for example, Main Title at the top and Flow Title underneath.
  2. In project info, I see the following, which makes me wonder if I did not complete all the steps to name the flows:

Update: I changed the flow names on the left as well, but that did not cause them to appear on the score.

Check your Layout Options (for each layout).

Cool! Thanks. Checking now.

Also - flowComposer does not appear by default. projectComposer is included in the First layout (if you added the data in the Project section of Project info), but if you want a composer to show for each flow you should edit the Flow heading layout.

The usual method is to rename a new flow on the card (from e.g. “Flow 1”) in Setup as soon as you create it. This name (which appears in the list on the left) is also used for the flow title unless you enter a different title in Project Info.

On the left of Project Info, you see flow names. On the right, you see flow titles. These can be different.

Thank you, @Lillie_Harris and all who helped.

@Lillie_Harris et al, I marked this as solved, but then I realized that flow titles don’t show up on parts. I would think they should: since rehearsal marks start over with each flow, how will the conductor tell musicians where to start without flow titles? (If you’re playing “The Nutcracker Suite,” how do you find “Waltz of the Flowers” in your stack of music?)

Showing flow headings is a per-layout option. When you set it earlier to show, did you only do that for the score, or all layouts in the project?

Thanks for this advice. It works except for the first flow. New to Dorico.

Welcome to the forum, Brad!
