I have Cubase 14 artist, I have been using it with my up to date Focusrite driver for a while, never had any issue.
Recently, real time render has been messed up:
- No modulation on any audio track
- No sound from any audio track, including metronome
- Live MIDI works but recording and playing back is not working
- Exports work fine
Tried:
- Another DAW, no issue
- Checking, and reinitializing all audio parameters and routing inside Cubase (including asio guard, and not releasing the driver when Cubase is in background)
- Clean reinstall of Cubase
- Clean reinstall of my Focusrite drivers
What worked:
- Switching to Steinberg integrated Asio driver
Why though? I don’t see anything other than a weird windows update rendering Focusrite drivers on my machine incompatible with Cubase…
Anything would help greatly, thanks!
First thing I would try is to rollback the windows update to the previous one.
You don’t say what version of Windows you use and also what Focusrite unit you are using
This where a Windows backup is the thing to have. Myself I use TeraByte Drive Image Backup and Restore Suite and a quick restore takes maybe 5 mins
I also have had some similar issues with my set up this week.
It has been fine until now.
I had bad audio performance and No Audio at times. All very random, and then no Audio at all.
I uninstalled and reinstalled Focusrite Control and Drivers. That fixed it.
I have a Focusrite Clarett 4Pre USB interface, was running Focusrite control version 3.20, updated to 3.26.
Not sure why it suddenly played up.
I installed Cubase 15Pro, (updated from Cubase 14Pro) Thats when my issues started. All sorts of Audio oerformace problems. HalionSonic VST was problematic.
I couldn’t get to the core issue,as it was randomly misbehaving.
It seems ok now though.

Sorry, I’m on Windows 11, I7 14th gen, 32Gb DDR5.
My sound card is a 3rd gen Scarlett 2i2.
I would try a backup but I haven’t made any major update since it last worked…
Weird but it seems very different from my issue since there is no audio modulation whatsoever. I also tried reinstalling everything focusrite related but nothing worked.
It would be quite strange for that to happen because of an update, especially something which works in other DAWs. Windows updates don’t single out Cubase.
Which Windows update was it? It will appear in your update history.
Are you sure nothing else was changed/installed during that time? A reinstall of Cubase is only really clean if you remove the configuration files it writes.
