Focusrite & El Capitan

Stupidly I updated my Mac Book Pro to El Capitan (I needed to for other software I use). Now I can no longer use my Focusrite audio interface (6i6). When I press record the euro message ‘can’t load/find Asio driver’ (can’t remember exact error message.

When I plug in other interfaces (not focusrite) it all works fine, sadly I need to use the focsurite.

How can I fix this? Rolling back the software update is not an option.

Hi,

It seems, Focusrite is not El Capitan compatible. If there is any Focusrite driver, download the latest (hopefully El Capitan compatible) version.

Hi Dudley,

Sorry to hear that you’re having some problems with your 6i6.

The Scarlett 6i6 is in fact fully tested and compatible with El Capitan, you can see the compatibility of our current products in this article: http://focusrite.com/answerbase/are-focusrite-products-compatible-with-el-capitan

Cubase was only made officially compatible with El Capitan yesterday so it’s likely that you simply need to install this update, please see this article: https://www.steinberg.net/en/newsandevents/news/newsdetail/article/cubase-8035-update-now-available-3511.html

If you find that you’re still having any problems with your 6i6 after trying the update please contact us directly and we’ll be happy to help: http://focusrite.com/answerbase/contact-0

Hello, Sorry to get in this thread with a question of my own. I found the title was exactly what I wanted to use and I think it can work, so I also opened a new one but wanted to try Jack’s attention

I own an older Focusrite Firewire interface, The Saffire Pro 26 i/o. Very nice and working perfectly after 7 years.
Well this one is not supported anymore by Focusrite, in terms of creating new drivers etc.
I have the latest and have been on OS X 10.7.5 for some time now
As Im planning to upgrade to Cubase Pro 8.5, I found that I will have to upgrade my System to… well, it happened also with Native Instruments Etc…so Im waiting for a short period of time with less specific sound design and music composition work to do the testing etc… That will be end of February to half of March and Im getting extremely curious and nervous to know if my interface will work on El Capitan and Cubase 8.5.
I wanted to know if anyone had tried this interface on the new system
Well I hope it works. thanks

Hi Modiolo,

As you note, the legacy Saffire Pro 26 I/O (not the current Pro 26 model) has been discontinued for quite some time. It uses Apple’s FireWire Audio driver which is a built in part of OS X, Apple announced that they would no longer be updating this will the release of El Capitan.

The Pro 26 I/O has not been officially tested with El Capitan, however I would still expect it to function as an audio device (though this is subject to change at any point due to Apple no longer updating the FW driver). While it may function as an audio device, the Saffire Control routing software will likely not run as smoothly as on supported operating systems and may well be ‘laggy’. If you do choose to update, I would also strongly recommend not running the firmware updater for the Pro 26 I/O on an unsupported operating system.

All of our current Saffire models, as well as the USB Scarlett range and Thunderbolt Clarett range are fully supported on El Capitan in case you’re considering an upgrade to the Pro 26 I/O: http://focusrite.com/products

I hope this helps, if you have any further questions feel free to post or you can contact us directly here: http://focusrite.com/answerbase/contact-0
