Hello forum users! Like a lot of others, I’m excited about the new group-folders-as-group-channels feature. It opens up (Logic/ProTools-like) ways of working. I’ve noticed those DAW users keep their group busses beside their folders (I have an impression that the mix consoles ‘over there’ are not as richly featured as Cubase). In Cubase I keep my group busses pinned to the right side of the mixer. I do tend to have a one-to-one between the Group Folders and the Group Busses quite a lot (though not always).
However, with this new implementation, I find that whenever I collapse the group up top in the project window, unless the group folder has been converted to a group channel, folder and all channels completely disappear from the mixer. So if I have all my folders closed , I see nothing in the mixer except my various busses pinned to the right.
Is there any way to make Group Folders /Mixer channels behave like before? I think at present just to keep all existing projects functional (so I can navigate comfortably in the mixer, without having to go open folders in the project window), I need to convert all my Folders to Group Channels, that effectively pass their contents direct to my various group-level busses.
As a workaround, I created a preset for the Project Logical Editor that can also be assigned a keyboard shortcut. Just copy the preset to your user preset folder. You can find the correct folder using the Project Logical Editor’s preset search.
I have, I think. If you select “Show Automation” in there, all the other options for Group Folders are greyed out and you lose sight of the tracks in the Project Window. So now I have it. So: having folders expand and collapsing in the mixer pane is really nice. I do miss my subgroups at the right. I will try for a while without them, but I suspect I am going to end up with smaller group folders on the left, and bigger sub-groups on the right, and sometimes a 1-to-1 between them.
