Folder Group Track data/automation display

Thank you, Steinberg

Long-awaited feature (I didn’t care for it, but everyone else did)

My only issue is that when I close the folder tracks, I no longer see my audio events. It has now been replaced with the volume automation lane, which I understand.

Is there a setting to have both? I’d still like to see my events when I close folder tracks and then have the volume automation lane overlay the closed folder. yes??

”BEFORE”

“AFTER”

As you can see, my session looks empty, with folders closed

Please let me know if there is a setting to have the best of both…???

It’s this, most likely: N15 : View events directly on the folder track - #8 by steve.

Oh, I see, got you, thank you. So I can have events OR automation. not both.
It would be nice to have the automation as an overlay. but this works. thank you again.

yes, it would be great to have both at the same time!

I agree with the OP.

The issue with having both is that you would only be able to have the functionality of one or the other, but not both.

I personally think that the best approach would be to have all of the group channel automation parameters nested under the automation track parameter list and to display the events on the project zone to get the best of both worlds. I don’t think there’s any need for the group volume automation to replace the events on the folder group tracks.

The new feature is awesome! But I also vote for seeing both automation and the contents.

Update: Though unchecking automation and opening it as a separate lane solves the issue. Thanks, Cubase guys, for such a great feature!

Did this restore the functionality to move, cut, copy, paste the events on the folder group track again ?

What happens if you have both “Show Automation” and “Always Show Data / Show Event Details” selected at the same time ? Does the automation or the events take priority ?

It’s worth mentioning that

  • there’s an available key command to switch between the Group Folder automation/data views.
    In key commands go to
Preferences>Folders>Folders with Group Channel show Automation

  • You can open the automation lanes

Thanks for the information. It’s good to know that it can be setup that way. My Cubase v15 trial license expired so I am unable to test things at the moment.

Yes! I’m glad I found this thread and this specific information. I’d been hitting my head against a wall switching back and forth between the data view and the automation view, essentially finding I always want the data view, especially when cutting tracks up ahead of comping, but it will also be very important when (eventually) editing automation since seeing context of what is where in the arrangement is key.

Thanks to this tip, I will no longer have to go back and forth between showing automation and showing the data, which was especially frustrating because it is global within the project, rather than specific to a given folder (which still may not have been optimal for tracks where there would be a need to automate in view of the structure).

I also like that the folders can be nested. Today’s main use case is working doing some premixing of background vocals where I’ve got both my live ones and ReSing doubles of those live ones (just using the ReSing singers to change my voice to other voices), and where the balances between groups needs to be different (the ReSing voices tend to be a lot louder than mine), but those subgroups can have a static balance, and I’ll eventually automate the full BGV submix:
