Folder/Group tracks in Nuendo 15 to Cubase

In upcoming Nuendo 15 there is a cool new implementation of Folder/Group tracks. Is this going to be in an update to Cubase 15 ?

I would say it has to as people often use both programs and if this wasn’t included then it would mess up being able to open projects in both.

There’s a good chance. But my guess is not for Cubase 15. I think it’s “too big” of a feature and headline for the Nuendo 15 release, such that it’s unlikely that they’ll give it away in a dot point patch for Cubase 15. My guess though is that it will show up in Cubase 16.

They also are likely looking at it from a marketing perspective too, that it will drive more crossgrading to Nuendo. So it’s in their interest to recoup more of the investment into this feature to leave it as a Nuendo exclusive for the time being.

As for Cubase → Nuendo file compatibility, that’s a very good point, @Norbury_Brook, and I will test this out myself when I get the Nuendo 15 update next week. But I hope Steinberg has a good and reasonable response to this, since this is potentially a big issue for some users. Perhaps there will be an “import” option in Cubase that explodes out the folder and bus assignments into compatible old-style tracks? Who knows? But yeah, it’s a very good point.

Hopefully Steinberg will give us some clarity on this. It’s a feature I badly want in Cubase. I’ll be very cross if we have to wait for the next major Cubase versions to get it.

I just checked out the video for Nuendo 15 new features and upgraded immediately from Cubase. The folder and deeper/better automation features, and quite a bit more are sooooo worth it for me.

I have Nuendo 14, I assume to get current discount to 15 I buy a 13 to 14 upgrade and sit on it until 15 is released, or do I wait for 15 to be released. Is the upgrade discount still available then.

There is no current discount to Nuendo 15 because it’s not being sold yet.
The current discount is on Nuendo 14.

There is a grace-period in effect for anyone who now buys Nuendo 14 which means they will get Nuendo 15 without paying more once that is released.

See above, no discount for v15 yet.

When Nuendo 15 is released there should be a 20% discount for a “short amount of time” according to the video.

In other words, if you want to pay less then you’re probably best off buying Nuendo 14 now with the 30% discount, rather than waiting and buying Nuendo 15 for a 20% discount (unless they lower the price). It’s not that big of a difference though.
