Folder Groups are missing one last thing: VCA control

Hello everone,

First of all, I really like the new Folder + Group Channel workflow in Cubase 15. It has made project organisation much cleaner and reduced the need for separate Group Tracks.

However, I still find myself keeping separate VCA tracks because Folder Groups only control the summed audio signal.

For example, if tracks inside a Folder use shared post-fader FX sends, lowering the Folder Group changes the dry level but does not behave like a VCA. The send relationships are not preserved in the same way.

It would be great to have an optional mode for Folder Groups:

• Group (current behaviour)
• VCA
• Group + VCA

In Group + VCA mode, the Folder would:

• Keep all its current advantages (organisation, MixConsole integration, inserts, sends, processing)
• Continue acting as a Group Channel
• Also control child track faders proportionally, just like a VCA

This would combine the benefits of Folder Tracks, Group Channels and VCA Faders into a single workflow.

For many projects, it would remove the need to create separate VCA tracks while still preserving the advantages of VCA behaviour. Anyone else would like to see a Group + VCA mode for Folder Groups?

Cheers

yes, Logic and Studio One have this and it’s great!

I suppose having the option to toggle the folder-group fader between summed audio and VCA would be good.

I think VCAs in general should be fixed before doing anything new VCA-related! There are serious issues lurking in the current implementation ..

In fact, there’s more than VCAs that need to be fixed with regards to automation as far as I recall.
