Folder Track Improvements "Active Folders"

Make it so that a folder track can become a group track by the click of a button. If the button is active, the folder shows up like a group track in the Mixer, if disabled, just a regular folder track. Folder tracks could have better functionality. Folders could act like track archivers to, on the fly. They could have an info pane for a composer to make his own text. A Folder should be a portal for relevent opportunities.

Make it so that a folder track could be hidden. Why? If you have a big template with a lot of tracks disabled, but at the commencement of a project, if you want an instrument from a subfolder of a folder, you get three tracks in the Project Zone - two of which afre redundant. You can’t hide the folder it is in, and you cant hide the subfolder. Think of a typical Strings folder. You could have Solo Instrument, Ensembles, you could have violins, violas, celli and bass, tehn within them, Legato, Pizzicato, col legno etc. If you folderise, you pay heavily in the visual appeal of the project zone.

I noticed by doing different tests
that which could significantly slow down Cubase
when you have a lot of tracks is to have a lot of tracks and/or folders open at the same time
The solution I found was first of all to create only the instrument family folders and no subfolders

There’s already a thread on this

Make a combined folder & group track; was: Make folder tracks = Group tracks - Cubase - Steinberg Forums

Your wish is granted ….it’s in Nuendo 15. Check the livestream video at the 4:25 or so mark.

Check out this test: In Nuendo 15 I created an “Active” Folder Track. I saved the project and opened it in Cubase 15. Bump!!

Note that there are differences in the Cubase Mix.

If this is coming, may I repeat that the ability to hide folders is important. Why? Because when one has a large project with subdirectories,
Example/Strings/Ensembles/East West/Pizzicato, if one opens a single pizzicato track, one gets no less than five tracks in the project Zone. If one adds another single track say Flute legato, one could need ten tracks in the Project Zone.
This is senseless, it cripples the use of subfolders in large Templates.

Isn’t the reason why sub folders were given to us, was to create order, not wasted screen space?
