How is paragraph more flexible than just tweaking it as needed in shift-x text? If you need to adjust it with the paragraph styles you have to create completely new styles in a secondary dialogue box rather than just adjusting it on the fly.
(To be clear, paragraph styles are a GREAT thing, but forcing us to always use them for this one aspect of typography is also limiting in its own way.)
