Hi!
I’m struggling with hiding measures. Why are the two staves not hidden automatically? There are any elements in the measures.
Can I somehow force Dorico to hide them?
Thanks in advance for your help!
best,
H
There could be many reasons why these staves aren’t hidden, and most of them aren’t diagnosable via screenshot. Could you share the project file, so we can take a look?
page 8 and 9. The first staff of the percussion should be hidden.

Ah…I see, it’s under vertical spacing. Thanks!
Under Layout Options > Vertical Spacing > Staff Visibility there are settings for hiding empty staves, which in your file is currently set to Never.
You can also control staff visibility locally by adding a System or Frame Break, selecting it and hitting Enter; you will get a detailed dialog box. Beware that this also lets you hide staves that have music on them, so be careful.
When you activate hiding empty staves in the layout options, the score becomes a lot messier and more difficult to read, as you’d have to re-read the staff labels on every new page. If staves are only empty for a system or two, it’s often preferable to keep them visible so you don’t disturb the visual flow. Conductors and other score-readers will thank you for it.
