Is there a way to force a line to remain horizontal as you reposition it in engrave mode? When I first add the line, it’s horizontal. If I click and drag in the middle of the line (in engrave mode) it remains horizontal. But if I shorten it (dragging one of the end handles) it goes at an angle. I would like to force it to always be horizontal.
Can you say a bit more about why you’re repositioning the line in Engrave mode? Or share some screenshots to demonstrate?
That’s not to say that you shouldn’t or you’re doing anything wrong! Just to understand where you are now, and where you want to end up, because it’s possible that dragging it around isn’t going to be the quickest/most reliable way of getting what you want in the long run.
It’s customary to have a horizontal line between harp pedal changes if the change is short. It’s an indication to keep your foot on the pedal for a quick change rather than the latch the pedal. I can add the line in write mode, but can’t move it except in engrave mode.
Right, I see what you mean – thank you for that, it’s really clear.
Two options for graphical moves in Engrave mode:
- If you really want to click and drag, you can hold down Shift after you start dragging to constrain your edit to either the horizontal or vertical plane only
- You can use key commands to nudge items strictly in one direction, either Alt/Opt-Left arrow to nudge the end to the left (or Ctrl/Cmd-Alt/Opt-Left arrow to nudge it by a larger amount)
From the outset as well, make sure you’ve input lines with the closest possible attachment points to what you want – you can set lines to be attached to noteheads or rhythmic positions; the latter will create properly flat lines by default.
Ah yes! The Shift after starting to drag does it just fine. Thank you.
