I’m trying to force Dorico to show (in a 4/4 bar) 3 beats of rest with a fermata, then a caesura, then 1 beat of rest to show that the hold is on 3, the music stops, and then it picks up again on beat 4 (I don’t care about playback, only notation). I went into Notation mode, clicked on force duration, clicked on Rests on the left side, typed in a dotted half note, and pressed Y to place it. It worked for every staff on my score EXCEPT for the Drum Set. No matter what I try, it won’t do it for the Drum set – it keeps simply placing a whole rest and then the caesura AFTER the whole rest (which is incorrect; the caesura is after beat 3, not after beat 4). See attached screenshot where it does work for the Bass Guitar, but doesn’t work for the Drum Set. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I make this work in the Drum Set? Thank you.
Hi @1941house, you can force the dotted half rest in the kit staff as following:
- write a note in the last quarter
- select the half rest at the beginning of the bar, activate force duration and press the dot, to make it a dotted half rest
- delete the added quarter note: a quarter rest will remain and your caesura will find the desired place
Here a short video:
This worked perfectly. Thank you so much!
You are welcome, @1941house.
