Forcing part of a free time bar onto a system?

Hi all! I’m engraving this piece with a harp cadenza in a free time bar. I am trying to move the start of the bar (currently system 2) onto the first system. However, the “move to previous system” button isn’t working, which I assume is because it tries to move the entire free time bar there. I’ve tried shuffling system breaks around to nudge it onto that system, but I can’t figure out how to move it, does anyone have any help?

You’ll want to enable system breaks within bars (Preferences > Note Input and Editing) if you haven’t already, in order to put a system break at a suitable spot within the cadenza. You can select and move an existing system break by the grid with Alt-arrows, like other objects.

I have it enabled. Weirdly there isn’t actually a system break at the start of the free time bar it just… goes on a new system. Not too sure what to do here…

If you select the system break at the start of bar 209, you should have the option to wait for the next system break, which will force everything from the start of 209 until the next break to be in one system. Then you can add a system break manually where you want it, and it won’t break until it reaches that break. (I’m uncertain whether you can add the manual break in the middle of a bar, but like Mark Johnson says, if you input it at the start of the bar, you can then move it by the grid after the fact to get it exactly where you want it.)

Hello @vallieplushie
in Engrave Mode you should be able to select the low „f“ in bar 210 and insert a System Break.
Then select the prior System Break in bar 209 and in the bottom panel click the property “Wait until next System break”.
Btw., I wonder why you don’t start the open meter “X” in bar 209 already.
But that’s another thing…

Thank @Yesuguy and @k_b, this works!
