Can anyone help with advanced use of the Segno and coda symbols. The graphic above shows the use of the coda symbol twice, the segno, and a special B that looks like a reharsal mark. Is this enough info to help with setting this?
Thanks.
I was just talking about this in another thread: if you copy out one extra A-section you can simplify this repeat structure significantly. Like this:
Wont work because B begins one measure in, the second time through because it is coming from the relative major and the ending of that section cadences on major but shifts to minor in what would be the first measure of that B section. THen it goes back to A and the coda sign falls on the measure prior to the first time through and therefore would go to the Fin.
Thanks. It almost worked.
How was I supposed to know that from your sketch though? I’m not sure I completely understand the complication either, surely those transition measures could just be part of the second endings? And if not, maybe it’s wiser to copy out a second B-A section after C instead of doubling back.
…which would be (at the risk of using more paper) a bit easier for a player to follow. ![]()

My apologies. I didn’t realize there was that extra measure to deal with the minor vs major ending.

I was trying to save paper and stay faithful to the original. But yes, I just copied the extra sections. I still wonder if there is a way to do it.
I think it may be possible (although, in my opinion, not desirable) but it would involve signs like a “double segno” and “double coda”. I would have to go back and experiment using the properties panel to see if it would work.
[Edit] The properties include a “marker index” which will give you a segno, double segno, etc. It will also change the D.S. to D.S.S, and Coda to Coda 2. It is a little tricky (on iPad) to place them at the same point but can be accomplished using both write and engrave modes. I can’t really tell from your handwritten version if you intend measures in the gaps between the sections. If I have a chance later I’ll try to do a quick mockup. (But it may be more of a “maze puzzle” than useable player’s part!) ![]()
[Further Edit] I’ve attached a file…. Does this get close?
I added the “y sigue” as text — there is probably a better way to replace the D.S. text with what you wrote by hand but that’s another issue!
