Formatting a choral score

I’m new to Dorica. When I enter a score for SATB or for TTBB I see 4 staffs. But the usual print format should have the top two lines (SA, for example) on the treble staff and the bottom two lines (TB) on the bass staff. How can I convert the 4 staffs to the two I expect to see (preferably with the two parts on each staff having stems in opposite directions.) For TTBB (or barbershop) the treble staff should be an octave lower.

Welcome to the forum @pfv2!

There are a couple of ways.

The first one I would try is to use the Reduce function:

  • Copy all the music from the S and A staves
  • Select the staff that you want to be the SA staff
  • Edit or Right-click > Paste Special > Reduce

(I’m not sure what would happen with differing lyrics using this method)

Another method would be to just paste each staff’s material into different voices. I’d start with the S part:

  • Copy and paste the S staff into the SA staff.
  • Flip the lyrics so that they are above the staff (select them and press F)
  • Copy the A staff > select the SA staff > Edit > Paste Special > Paste Into Voice > New Down-stem Voice

Since you pasted the A staff after the S staff, it’s lyrics can just stay underneath.

Do either of these help?

Of course, you could just start with two staves instead of four. You are not obliged to do anything complex, just write two voices on each staff.

Hi @pfv2, following up on @DanielMuzMurray suggestions, here also a post with 2 videos that show that workflow (in case it could be also helpful, in particular for handling lyrics):
