Hello, I’m working through my parts for the first time in Dorico and have a few basic questions please. I forgot how to evenly space the systems. So I kept having the last bar show up on the following page but moved it with “Make Into Frames” and the end result is a very lopsided spacing of staves. I was moving them individually but how can I just hit a button and evenly space them across the page?
Second question, there is a text block I want removed for every part. I understand I have two layouts, one for the full score and one for parts. But it seems I have to delete the text block in each part. How can I have that change apply to every part?
Dorico will automatically space systems to fill the frame (“justify”) according to the settings in Layout Options > Vertical Spacing > Vertical Justification. Basically, if the frame fullness percentage (the number in the lower left corner of your screenshot) is over the first number in these settings, the systems will all be justified.
In your case, it looks like you have two things going on. First, I think you have manually adjusted most of the systems on that page, which leads to that big space before the last system. Try selecting some object on that page and then doing Engrave > Staff Spacing > Reset Selected Frames.
Second, your frame fullness looks to be over 100%, which means that you’re trying to put more music on the page that Dorico thinks will fit, according to your various spacing settings. If it’s only slightly over 100%, then you’re probably okay, but the higher it gets, the more likely it is that Dorico won’t be able to do everything you’ve asked for and will produce results that don’t look good.
How did you enter this text? Is it a text frame that you added in Engrave mode, or is it staff or system text that you added in Write mode?
(Note that you have more than two layouts – you have a score layout and multiple part layouts. But you probably have only two page template sets – one for score layouts and one for part layouts. I think you have a text frame in one of your part page templates, and if you delete it from the template then it will disappear from all part layouts.)
Hahaha, that did exactly what I wanted. Thanks! Should have thought of that. Yes I was manually moving the system thinking that was how to fix it but it ended up causing more harm.
I did not add it at all. Or didn’t do it with intent. It is this:
If you don’t want to display flow titles, you can turn them off in Layout Options > Page Setup > Flows > Show flow headings > Never.
Note that this is a per-layout setting, so after you open Layout Options, select all part layouts in the right-hand column before changing the setting.
Thanks. That didn’t seem to work as intended but seems to help me understand what is going on. Changing Show flow heading to Never got rid of the title and composer but retained the flow. When I edited the frame, it said: {@flowNumber@}. {@flowTitle@}. What I think I’m wanting is to get rid of that block on all parts. I need the title, instrument part, and composer retained.
