Current behavior
- With Layout Options closed, press Ctrl+Shift+L: dialog opens, with current layout selected
- Switch back to main window, keeping Layout Options open
- Change to a different layout
- Press Ctrl+Shift+L: dialog comes back to the front, with the previous layout selected
The same thing happens with Notation Options, if you navigate to a different flow.
I get that the shortcut keys (and menu items) are programmed to simply focus the options windows if they are already open. I think it would be helpful if they would also perform as if they were newly opened, by selecting the current layout/flow. I’ve been bitten by this more than once, assuming that I’m adjusting settings for the current layout, when in fact the previous layout is selected.
I also understand that there are workflows where one might have selected multiple flows/layouts in the window to adjust several at once, and then one switches to the main window and back to the options dialog; in this case, one would want the initial selection to persist. I suspect that this mostly involves clicking on the options dialog or using the taskbar or Alt+Tab (or Mac equivalent) to change focus, and I’m not suggesting that this behavior change; I’m only talking about what happens when one summons the window from within the application.
