FR: Click and double-click in Engrave Mode resolve to same element

One small thing that bothers me time and time again:
When I click once on things in Engrave mode, Dorico resolves the position of the click to a certain element which then is being highlighted. When I do a double-click then, I often don’t get to edit the that thing but some other element.

Example 1: When text frames overlap. You click the border of a frame and the correct frame is being highlighted. You do a double click at the very same spot, but you don’t get to edit the frame that has been focused, but the frame that is “behind” it.
Example 2: When there are signposts being shown above the first staff that overlap a text frame. You click the signpost, it gets highlighted. You double-click to edit it, but the text frame gets into edit mode.

Editing $things would be so much easier if the thing I clicked would be the same thing I can edit when double-clicking…

Thanks for listening!

It’s not a definitive solution, but if a signpost is associated with a popover panel (and many are), hitting return on it also opens the popover.

Yeah, that’s right, and that’s what I’m always falling back to.

To be honest, I’m more concerned about the things happening with and around frames.
When two frames are quite close together, this can happen: You select one frame that you want to resize. You click on one of the white handles on its edge - and suddenly you find yourself moving or resizing a totally different frame that happens to live in the neighborhood which has not been selected before.

This is frustrating time and time again. I have to deal with very tight layouts (the page sizes of a marching book are tiny) where frames are quite close together, and I feel like Dorico just doesn’t want to play ball with me here. :soccer: :basketball:

You can navigate between frames with shift + up or down arrow to be sure to select the right one

Mouse control precision feels to me like it has regrettably never been a particular focus in Dorico’s development process…

From the start (see Daniel’s early blog posts) Dorico has focused on being able to control music input almost completely via a laptop keyboard. Needless to say, as Dorico has matured more flexibility has been added, but considering Dorico’s original focus, your impression is not surprising.

I encounter this with frames as well. My solution is always to select the correct frame, Tab if needed to deselect a handle, and press Enter to edit the correct frame.

Having acclimated to it, I would rate the annoyance level as extremely low at this point. But i know what you mean.

I have generally arranged my frames so they do not entirely overlap by leaving small areas where I can click to select a frame that might lie beneath another.
