It took me some effort to notice that CCs used in the expression map assigned to a track are not passed to this track via another way. I would like to use it on expression map, but eventually want to override with my own assignments on note expression or controller lane; I don’t see why it shouldn’t be possible, at least as an option, so I let this request to the developers.
In the meantime, why not add another MIDI track, routed to the same MIDI instrument, but without the VST Expression map on that track? (but of course, that could not be done with Instrument tracks, so you’d have to use regular MIDI tracks and the VST rack 
)
Yes, sure there are workarounds, but the request still remains.
