Would it be possible on the Filter menu, when changing the select/deselect options, for the menu not to close until you have also selected what it is you want to select or deselect?

Unfortunately, no, it’s not possible, because that is not how menus work. Once you choose something from a menu, the menu closes. I know it’s irritating, particularly in this case, but you might consider assigning shortcuts to Deselect Only and Select Only.

Thanks. It was actually the debate over shortcuts that prompted this thought. I haven’t set up shortcut for the filter items because they work on selections that I have almost invariably just made with the mouse.
