Hi, ok I’ve narrowed this down to a feature request:
Please implement a way to freeze/capture/bounce external plug-ins?
Ideally it would only affect the EP and not the whole channel
Maybe this could be implemented as an offline process? This way it could be committed at any time in the future.
I think this would be useful to a wide user-base doing hybrid mixing.
Thanks!
How would that theoretically be realized?
lots of ways. It could be a button next to the freeze button in the channel. “capture external plugin" could a choice in offline processing. It could be a button on the external plugin insert itself. It’s no different than capturing offline processed audio except that it has to be done in real time.
You could use 4 analog channel strips 4 times if you wanted to. It would be amazing for archiving but also just for flexibility in freeing up analog equipment.
I meant - if you want to capture the result of an audio effect you have to write it into an audio file. If your external effect is in slot 2 then the plugin in slot 1 would have an influence of the sound. I don’t see any way of just getting the return of the external effect only as if it were some sort of impulse response reverb.

No that’s true. I would expect and wish to capture any insert before the external plugin. If I didn’t I would just bypass them when capturing and then depending on if I still wanted that previous plugin - drag the frozen external plug to the first slot.
Another solution would be to simply include external plugins in the Channel Freeze function.
LOL, I actually just had the thought….I could use Melodyne to do what I’m looking for right now. Just don’t actually process the audio. Something a little more purpose-built by Steinberg would be nice but….that might solve my issue for now. Imagine if Steinberg made a multi-channel “capture” plugin?
Thanks for engaging with me on this.
