The last comment I’ve seen from Steinberg, in essence, was that Wavelab was primarily a stereo editor not meant for detailed editing/processing of surround or immersive formats. Instead, do it in Nuendo.
Is this still the stance of Wavelab developers?
Feature Request in order of priority:
7.1 and up quick SDDS to SMPTE/EBU surround channel reorder function in process menu (or other). Due to SB insisting on using SDDS throughout and we need a converter to the outside SMPTE world.
Easier surround channel swapping in all modes not just montage. Also in one of the process menus
Dialog-gated (or Dial-norm) LUFS/LKFS offline stats. As needed for conforming to Netflix and others.
a Surround subfolder in Favorites
Dolby .adm and DTS .dtsxs mastering and editing in montage
It kills a lot of interest in the pro community that are dealing with it daily. Nowadays there are many stereo (with basic surround support) editors starting to drown out Wavelab. In the past its mandate appeared to us as the most comprehensive, but not anymore.
I’d like to have it open at the same time as Nuendo (often on another PC) when doing surround and immersive deliverables, quickly doing offline stats and dealing with loudness specs, pulling up or down pitch/framerate whilst Nuendo keeps rendering etc but it falls short.
Dialog-gated reading in Analyze (concurrently with Program gated)
MP4 or QT audio only render for ATMOS/Immersive playback in clients player.
Ambisonic, FB360, DTS, ATMOS, Auro-3d integration
Even though we could do much of this in Nuendo the work flow in Wavelab for mastering is better, it loads quicker and we can have it open while Nuendo is open.
Yes I’m using Wavelab 12.0.51 (and Nuendo 14.0.30 on MBP M4max Sequoia)
I stand corrected with the loudness curve and TP occurrences from the Analysis section. The speed is fine as well. I will edit my list.
Dial-norm Integrated isnt available anywhere offline though or am I missing it? I can only see it on Supervisor as a realtime thing.
Offline is key to my workflow so I am trying to find the setting to analyze as dialog gated. Also I’m trying out the Process>Normalize>Loudness>Netflix function but it normalizes to -27LUFS Program gated. This is completely different, and thus brings it way down.
I got my 5.1 mix to -28LUFS Dialog gated where the Program gated reading was -20,2LUFS and I was testing in WL a tweak of 1db upwards compression to get -27db Diag-gated without affecting my peaks but I’m missing where to get this reading in the analyzer
