[FR] Option for l.v. ties to extend to the next rhythmic position

Hi,

Dorico’s laissez vibre ties have a fixed length regardless of note duration.

In Kawai’s notation software called Score Maker, there is a handy property called Extend to next rhythmic position (次のタイミングまで).

Having a similar option in Dorico via Engraving Options or the Properties panel, would save a lot of manual adjustment in Engrave mode, especially for piano or ringing percussion parts.

One can extend the default lv tie length in Engrave Options; I favor 3 spaces.

I think the OP wants a (automatic) variable length depending on the note duration.

OP: I don’t see any (readable) button on the linked site to change the language (at least there should be an English version of the site, no?). I am genuinely interested in reading the content but unfortunately my Japanese is not yet good enough.

Sorry for any confusion. The link is in Japanese only but it’s just for reference and not required. The link leads to a page on how to use Kawai Score Maker; a summary is:

  • When you input an laissez vibre tie, it attaches a short tie to the note.
  • If you check Extend to next rhythmic position in the Input Properties panel, ties will be entered up to the notes or rests at the next rhythmic position.
  • You can change this option in the Properties panel even after you’ve entered it.

I’m sure he does. I think we all want what we want to be automatic; all we can offer though is what is possible for the time being. :man_shrugging:
