It would be great if there would be a setting to stop tuplet input automatically when switching to a different note value.
For instance, in most music there would incidentally be a quarter triplet, followed by regular eighth or sixteenth notes. It’s less common to have a quarter triplet followed by an eight triplet for example. Ofcourse also possible, but less common (for me)
One of the great things about how Dorico approaches tuplets is that you can input eighth notes into a “quarter note triplet”: whatever fits inside the tuplet “boundary”. There are many places where it is necessary to have durations inside a tuplet that don’t match its base unit.
Just to make sure you’re aware of the existing command to stop tuplet input, which is : (namely, Shift-; ) ? Or just waggle the left/right arrow keys.
Hi Lillie, thank you for the quick reply!
I’m aware of the stop command, but I always tend to forget and ‘keep typing’, which results in all kinds of triplets I don’t want
Thankfully, it’s very easy to fix afterwards with just removing the tuplet, but a setting like this would save me a few steps
OMG, Lillie you always have the greatest little hidden tricks – even though I’ve used Dorico a few years I actually wasn’t aware of this!
Unfortunately for OP those of us who write highly syncopated music may not enjoy such a feature - for the reasons of “hybrid” tuplets mentioned. But this little waggle arrow keys is great as I will admit while playing in from my midi keyboard I sometimes forget I’m still in tuplet mode too lol.
