FR: Turn off chord symbol contagion

If you enter a chord symbol on a staff which is not set to show them, Dorico automatically sets chord symbols to show on that staff, and you have to crawl through the contextual menu in Setup mode to revert your settings. While I understand the reasoning behind this, I’d like the option that chord symbol input respects the previous visibility settings, accepting the consequence that the chords may not show up where you’ve placed the popover.

By accident, that is?

Could be an accident, yes, but also just an efficient workflow thing.

Would you mind outlining this a little for me, I have trouble visualizing this…
For many beginners, the setting as it is likely helps a lot…

I find it quite useful that I can enter global things like rehearsal marks or tempo changes from whichever part I happen to have before me, and they don’t affect things like the system object positions in Layout Options. Being another global stream of info it would make sense that chords behave the same way.
(before you derail further: I know about local chord symbols. No need to bring those up, they are an edge case.)

That makes sense! :+1:

However I believe that Chord Symbols are different animals because not all players need to see them.
I’d love to keep it as it is, and make sure that I have a layout in front of me that actually needs Chord Symbols to begin with…
My 2c,

I choose my words with care.
