Free extras

Well that was traumatic. I managed all the free plugins except Air Multichorus. It’s taking me round in circles and to be honest I don’t even think I want it. So I’ll bin the login it’s given me (seems no way to get the long code they require to register) and block the emails now I’ve registered, as I don’t want anything to do with a company who makes it so hard to get the product.

Yes, I am with you. I wasn’t that interested in another chorus fx in the first place, to be honest. However, as soon as I found out what it takes to try it I lost interest for good.

To be fair, once you set it up, it’s very easy to buy stuff from them (BFD expansions are the same thing, and that’s where my experience comes from.)

The trick is inMusic’s Software Center. You need to have an inMusic account, which is connected to the Software Center. Once you redeem the freebie from your account (mail), it shows up in the Software Center for download, installation etc.

It’s not that different from other companies, except that they don’t make it clear to the user that inMusic Software Center is the “hub” that controls all software brands under their umbrella. (AIR, AKAI, BFD, Alesis, Sonivox, M-Audio, etc etc)

Yeah I have the inmusic software and am registered but no email with the code. Ran through the steps a few times.
I’m not fussy as I really don’t need another delay. I saw the bfd software but I’ve tried that in the past and it just doesn’t compare to SD3 which I use which is light years ahead in sound and features.

The sonible plugin install is painful even with an existing account.. I ended up with two versions…one time limited trial and one free version.

The free plug-in is great. However immediately caused a CTD when I reopened the project I had used it on. Removed plug-in all was fine.

I think these ‘free’ offers that are just a data capture exercise for the plugin company and normally involve the need to install bespoke installers are more trouble than they are worth.

I appreciate the old adage 'if the service is free then you are the product ’ i.e. have my data in exchange for a free plugin.
But honestly, if I liked the free plugin I would go and check out the company anyway?

Can free stuff just be…well…free stuff?

Has anyone tested the Excite Audio Bloom Aether fx by any chance?

I once tried other Bloom LITE products that were part of a suite and they turned out to be useless without automation and sufficient parameter handling. It was more like a very limited trial version. Unless you were willing to buy the full version it made no sense.

SB Material Metal & Ice on the other side > great addition :+1:

Anyone else having trouble to get a download link for Time Machine by Safari Pedals after entering an email adress?
I checked my mails and Spam - still nothing after the second try. Or maybe someone can confirm that it works?
Thanks :slightly_smiling_face:

Fished if out of Spam myself.

Server troubles?

The point is, the mail contains just a download link. The activation itself takes place from within the plug’s interface.

(I don’t remember if you can download the plug-in directly from the website - as a demo - and enter the activation code yourself instead of waiting for the mail is what I’m saying.)

Thanks for your answer @ggmanestraki !
I tried different mail accounts, browser, provider and checked every corner - nothing.
No server troubles or not that I know of.
Same if you try to download a trial version, create an account or use the MySteinberg link.

Truth be told: I really don’t need another plugin… I was just curious if this plugin offered something unique since I haven’t really heard of the brand.
So, just out of curiousity: what’s your opinion - is the plugin any good?

UPDATE: I mailed Safari Pedal’s tech support - it took literally less than 5 minutes to get an answer with a download link. Seems I am not the only one having troubles. So if anyone is facing similar issues that’s something that works.

You’ll find out first hand then! From what little time I had to check it out, I think I’ll be using it.

I did and my verdict shall remain a secret…

I’m having the same issue. I’ll try the tech support route.

Make sure to copy the whole folder into your VST3 folder - there’s no installer.

Yup. By far the worst experience of trying to get this Air Multichorus plug. No link to the download, nothing. Can’t even find the plugin on their products page. Why do they bother? Presumably I have to sign up and download some awful corporate download centre application that covers the entire product group from DJ’s to HiFi buffs only for one little chorus pedal that I already have in Cubase natively. I’ve lost the will to keep trying.

Understandable… There used to be a time (back when plugins used to cost north of 100 bucks) where I would’ve grabbed any free plugin that crossed my view, but nowadays I have so many excellent plugins already, that I just ignored most of those promo offers (except where I already have an account, e.g. Softube).

Same here. I can’t help but think that some 3rd party companies paid Steinberg to be a part of this free extra stuff campaign looking at the quality of some plugins or lite versions which are basically useless. Reminds me a bit of mediocre support acts which have to pay the main act’s label to get on stage.
However, some of them. I am not going to spoil anything here by saying which one is which  And of course, that’s always a matter of personal taste and depending on the arsenal of existing plugins to choose from.

After all the hassle to redeem, acquire and install them, I doubt I will ever use them in a project, for I fear the moment I have to reinstall Windows and setup Cubase from scratch. For sure some projects will nag about missing plugins.

After regeristing 2 plugins and also have to install 2 different download managers and also an Ilok driver I called it quits and removed them both. Too much work for stuff you most likely already have with Cubase pro in some form or another.
The only thing interesting for me was Materials metal & ice. Just had to redeem the code and done, registered! If they would do this for other free stuff as well it would make it worth wile trying. Now it’s just too much hassle.
