Let’s say you insert an amp simulator on top of your plugin inserts to sculpt amped your guitar/bass sound with EQ/Comp?Mod/Whatever. These plugins tend to be the most CPU and RAM costly. The difference from Direct Offline Processing is big, freezing would freeze PRE section as well. Pre-fader sends could be frozen, but the best approach is debatable.

Such a powerful/useful feature in Pro Tools. I could free up soooo much more CPU in Cubase if I could freeze up to inserts like Trackspacer or Pi that still need to be active. Could implement it like PT…simply right-click a plug-in and select “freeze up to insert”.
+1, very useful.
