I entered a piece into Dorico with French horns and a timpani that don’t have key signatures. Is it possible to create a disposition where the key signatures will appear?
Do I have to work the other way around, creating French horns and a timpani with key signatures and then creating a disposition where the instruments won’t have these key signatures?
I am guessing that by disposition you mean what Dorico in English calls a layout? I’m afraid there is not a one-button solution to your issue, as the setting to use key signatures is tied to the instrument. So you will have to work with a duplicate somehow, with the obvious warnings that any subsequent edits need to happen twice.
You could duplicate the horn and timpani players, give one set the other ‘type’ of their instrument, then remove them from the other layout. This is probably the easiest solution and the one I would go for.
Alternatively, have just one set of instruments with key signatures, then duplicate the flow and give them local ‘open’ key signatures. Then disconnect each flow from the other layout.
Finally of course, you could even duplicate the entire project file. It’s the most straightforward solution but also the riskiest in terms of editing.
Thank you both.
I’ve created a horn part and a timpani part with key signature.
To avoid any errors, I’ve also created a layout with all the horns and both timpani for any modifications.
Thank you again, and have a great day.
