From 12 to 15: transfer Preferences and Key Commands?

I fed ChatGPT the operation manuals for both 12 and 15, but so far it is unable to help me with this:

I have years of ‘Preferences’ and ‘Key Commands’ that I like to have a certain way, but I can’t figure out how to export them from 12 nor how to import them in 15?

ChatGPT believes it is a matter of exporting and importing a Profile in Profile Manager, but that didn’t do it.

This used to be really straightforward in the Cubase 5 and 6 days, no idea why that changed?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Profiles should work for most stuff. Have you activated the profile after importing it?

Maybe have a look here:

What was missing? Please read the instructions from the link @fese kindly posted, first. There are a few pitfalls the manual doesn’t adress. Other than that, Profiles are really powerful. One of my goto tools for many years now.

The Backup & Restore Script @alexis posted above is fantastic, too! However, it is designed for backing up and restoring data within a given version (e.g. Control Room file location has changed in C 15). In other words, no guarantee it works. However, that shouldn’t keep you from using the script in the future - it’s an amzing tool! I use it at least twice a week (modified version that mirrors my setup) !

I’d start with Profiles and see if anything is missing. Preferences and key commands are covered by Profiles and then some. So, you should be good

Thanks all for your replies. So turns out the key was this:

  1. The focus is set on a default profile which is highlighted in white and not on your current profile. You need to set the focus on your current profile which is ticked (important)

  1. Duplicate and save this profile with a distinct name, preferably with a date.

I did not duplicate the ‘default’ profile, simply created a new profile thinking it would automatically save all current settings.

Duplicating the ‘default’ (which was the only profile I ever had until two days ago) and importing that into 15 did the trick.

Thanks again :folded_hands:

P.S.: Guess I should have stated this clearly in the first post, but I’m on MacOS.
