Frustrating Cubase Behavior with External Midi Controllers

Hello,

I am running into an issue that is now above my pay grade. I have been on a super focused 2+ weeks of learning Cubase since I left Logic. The latest issue I am running into and not able to get out from under on my own is with regard to using my external midi controllers.

I have the Audio Imperia FVDE, the Ghost Note Audio Mark 11 (brand new and will most likely replace the FVDE, and a TEC breath controller.

Just a quick note that all of these functions work perfectly, and consistently in LPX.

Could there be a master midi setting in Cubase that is somehow off or on? This is where I am get a little lost..

The faders do not move CC 1, CC 11 and CC 7 as programmed in my Ghost Note conductor software. I restart my computer, I reassign the CC values to the software and I see not slider movement in Kontakt, BBCSO etc..

How would this be working seamlessly in Logic but not Cubase? When I get it to work I cant guarantee that it will work again in the same or new session.

This is super frustrating, and I am hoping there is something super basic I am overlooking.

Please let me know if need me to further clarify the issue so it makes sense. But essentially, the way the controllers are supposed to work and function do not, and if so not every time :frowning:

Thanks so much!- HB

* I have had back n forth emails with Sample Modeling about why the TEC breath controller is not working as normal on my French Horn and Tuba library. Again works perfect in LPX

If I understand you correctly the external midi devices output regular midi data.
You can check what midi data arrives at each midi port in Cubase by opening the corresponding MIDI Monitor.

Studio → Studio Setup → MIDI Port Setup… then click the icon of the midi input port

Hi Johnny,

Thank you for your reply and trying to help. Here is a screenshot which looks normal to me correct?

And here is what it shows on my Ghost Audio Conductor Mark II setup page:

Only you know if everything is correct. But at least we can see CC1, 7, and 11 find their way into Cubase.
So if you simply create a midi track and make sure its input routing is set to the Conductor Mk 2 you ought to be able to record these controller messages onto the track. Can you try that please?

Hey Johnny, yes that works!!

But I haven’t created a midi track in over 10 years now that we have software instrument tracks lol. So I have to do this all the time or just one or were you just having me test it? As I say, this is where my “logic” gets muddy.. Sorry!

*and if I need to do this, why the extra step?

Hi Johhny,

:face_with_monocle:

Lol, it was defaulting to “Chord Pads”- always right in front of my face

Thanks again!

Glad you found your way.
My posts were just for troubleshooting.

I always appreciate your help, thanks man!
